Does Power Appetite Have Any Allergy Warnings or Side Effects?

Please do not take Power Appetite or any other product containing Echinacea if you have an allergy to Ragweed or any other members of the Asteraceae family such as chrysanthemums, daisies, and marigolds.  Power Appetite contains Echinacea, which is a distant cousin of Ragweed, they are both members of the Asteraceae family.  The primary risk of Echinacea to individuals who suffer from Ragweed allergy is oral allergy syndrome, a condition in which oral allergic reactions to Ragweed are made worse by exposure to Echinacea or some other substance.  Many foods and herbs are known to commonly cause oral allergy syndrome in ragweed allergy sufferers.  This list includes banana, chamomile tea, cucumber, dandelion, echinacea, melon (cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon), sunflower seeds and zucchini.

Echinacea is one of the top 20 supplements used in the United States year after year and you may have noticed that other companies do not provide this allergy notification on their Echinacea containing products.  This is because the risk is generally considered to be minimal.  Echinacea is widely used every year without widespread reports of adverse effects.  Although Echinacea has a long track record of safe use dating back hundreds of year to its extensive use by Native American tribes and is one of the top 20 supplements used in the United States today, we feel that a cautious and conservative approach is always best and that is why we do not recommend that people with a Ragweed allergy take Power Appetite or any other nutritional supplement containing Echinacea.

Although the risk of major side effects is minimal, we must insist that you consult with your physician if you have any concerns regarding how Power Appetite or any other nutritional supplement may affect you. This is not due to any specific health risk, but because your Doctor knows your medical history, especially any allergies or herbal sensitivities, much more intimately then we do. Your Doctor is the only person who is qualified to give you medical advice. If you would like to take a list of Ingredients/Active components in Power Appetite for your Doctor(s) approval, you can visit our ingredients webpage by clicking here.

Remember, our # 1 rule for considering whether or not to take any product – “Never put anything into your body that you are not 100% comfortable with.”  (Read more by clicking here. Finding The Right Supplements For You!)

This goes for foods, medications and especially nutritional supplements, including ours. If you are unsure or uncomfortable about what a product or individual nutrient or any other substance is or does, DO NOT TAKE IT. Period, end of story.

Is Power Appetite OK for VEGETARIAN diets?

Yes, Power Appetite is OK and safe for Vegetarians and Vegans. The contents of Power Appetite are not of animal origin (click here to view Power Appetite ingredients page) and the capsules are vegetarian capsules made of Hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose, which is the technical name for a plant sourced, vegetarian safe capsule. The terms, HPMC, vegetarian capsule (HPMC), Hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose and Hypromellose all refer to the same substance and can be used interchangeably. Hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose is currently considered to be the best material to use for supplement and medication capsules because it has physical properties similar to gelatin yet it comes from a vegetarian source and is also gluten free making it appealing to a large number of people with special dietary concerns. On the current Power Appetite label the capsule material is listed under other ingredients as Hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose, we hope to update this to read “vegetarian capsule (HPMC)” in the future so that it is clear to customers that Power Appetite does not contain any animal based contents.

Can I take Power Appetite if I am Allergic to Nuts?

Power Appetite does not contain any nuts and is MADE IN THE USA in a state of the art facility that is fully compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) set forth by the FDA for the supplement manufacturing industry. You can check out our ingredients page for a complete list of ingredients by clicking here. The contract manufacturer that we partner with is cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices Certified) compliant meaning that they are compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices and Standards set forth by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for nutritional supplement manufacturers. As part of GMP certification for nutritional supplement manufacturers “manufacturers are required to do raw ingredient purity testing and verify that they have adequate procedures and controls in place to prevent cross contamination during the manufacturing process and co-mingling during the handling process after manufacturing is complete.”  This means that adequate steps are taken to make sure that any sort of cross contamination does not occur. While the manufacturing facility where Power Appetite is made is completely compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices, it is not “peanut free” and does not have a “nut free certification.”  In order to obtain such a certification a facility must forbid any nuts on their premises this includes employee break rooms and even the company parking lot. (so an employee could not have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch in the employee breakroom or even in their car.)  We are not able to and do not wish to enforce such a policy on our employees or contract manufacturers.  We therefore can not and do not claim that Power Appetite is produced in a peanut or nut free facility.
